This week we have been enjoying great sunshine in the UK, and have been thoroughly entertained by a truly stunning Olympics where the British athletes have performed better than ever before.
It's also been a fantastic week for Plymouth College (my former secondary school) as two of their pupils won Olympic medals - a Bronze for Tom Daley in diving and a Gold for Ruta Meilutyte in swimming.
However, there are other things that have been happening in the world besides the Olympics this week! Let’s take a look at some of the more peculiar things that have been happening in the news:
GOOD WEEK FOR:
Bikini fans, as a Vietnamese airline allowed an in-flight bikini model parade on one of its flights, much to the delight of male passengers! Read the story here:
Zipwire fans, as a theme park in the UK is offering free zipwire rides to people called Boris, or those who are wearing a blonde wig, in honour of the Mayor of London Boris Johnson. (The Mayor was famously stuck on a zipwire during a publicity stunt in the first week of the Olympics). Read all about it here:
BAD WEEK FOR:
A woman from the UK who took out a new mobile phone contract – and within just one week owed £27,000! Read the story here:
A dopey drug dealer, after he illegally parked his van full of drugs – in a police station car park, in a space reserved for a top police officer! He has since been jailed. Read the story here:
QUOTATION OF THE WEEK:
"In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.” – Yogi Berra
FACTS OF THE WEEK:
A rodent’s teeth never stop growing
A shrimp’s heart is in its head
A snail can sleep for up to three years
A tuna fish can swim 100 miles in a single day!
VIDEO OF THE WEEK:
This week we have a very fun video by a physics-obsessed German man who likes to use a slingshot to blow things up in slow motion! See it here:
